Actual Adventure This month Holding Up Jesse James
A true tale by Joseph Kinchen Griffis, veteran frontiersman Joseph Kinchen Griffis, author of this story, was captured when a baby by the Kiowas and brought up as an Indian. He lived with them for thirty years, sharing their tribal feuds and their conflicts with white men. They named him “Tahan,” which means Texan-fighting man. In his exciting life in the Old West, he knew many of the great scouts and fighters of the period, including Kit Carson and General Custer.
Though now ninety years of age, he is still active and is busy writing thrilling stories of his experiences. This is one of them, which he tells in his own words.
