Behind Jap Lines in Burma With Merrill’s Marauders

Cover : The Army Could Use More Like Her — She is Pvt. Grace Glocke, a clerk at the Army Air Base, Rapid City, South Dakota, with a bid in for overseas duty. When this picture was made by T/Sgt. Vincent Kaminski, she had put on the new WAC summer uniform for the first time. The charming Pvt. Glocke is 21 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs 110, used to be a ballet dance instructor to children in Milwaukee and while obviously prettier than most, is typical of the girls in the service today. That those girls have done their job well both in America and abroad is proved by the eagerness of the Army to recruit thousands more in the WAC. See page 17 for story on the Wacs’ new summer clothes.
