Cover: Patrol on Suribachi – The peak of Mt. Suribachi, that 554 feet of volcanic rock that towers over Iwo Jima, was the goal of many a Marine who never lived through the bloody fighting to make it. But this four-man patrol got through and YANK Photographer Pfc. George Burns shot this picture of the first patrol to attain the summit.
