Vol. 1 No. 1 … In this, our first issue of the Rock Island Arsenal Record, we have attempted to bring you all in closer contact with your fellow workers in an effort to promote better teamwork for the good of our war program. The success of this monthly publication depends entirely upon your cooperation. We hope you will all contribute some bit of news from time to time about your associates, or tell us about yourself. If you have an interesting hobby, or have had an unusual experience either at work or on the outside, write the event and hand it to your foreman or send it to the Adjutant’s office. In each issue we intend to feature one or more departments of the Arsenal, with a full background story generously flavored with photographs illustrating its operations and leading personnel. In this issue we have featured the Cafeteria. In subsequent issues stories on other departments will appear in a similar fashion. The publication shall also bring to the new residents of this quad-city area a better understanding of the educational, cultural, recreational and religious advantages which this great industrial center offers. This magazine is being published for the benefit of the entire working personnel. We hope you like it. With your help, we are confident that it will, prove to be the finest publication of its kind for any military establishment in the country.
