Description
Lake Charles Army Airfield (now Chennault International Airport in Lake Charles, Louisiana) was established in 1940-1941 as a U.S. Army Air Forces training base during World War II. It primarily trained pilots and crews for bomber operations, including B-17, B-25, and B-26 units, serving as part of the Army’s rapid wartime expansion of aviation training facilities. After the war it was deactivated, though it later saw further military use and was eventually developed into a civilian and industrial airport.
