First-person account from the East African campaign of the First World War: a Schutztruppe company under General von Lettow-Vorbeck captures a British armoured car near the Battle of Mahiwa (1917) after routing an enemy supply column, only for the vehicle suddenly to drive off — until sailor “Freund Hein” (of the sunken cruiser Königsberg) lassoes it to a tree with its own tow cable.
