ASSIGNMENT IN FAIRBANKS
Cpl. Bob Nagle is convinced home was never like this and it all
happened during his minion to Fairbanks last month to cover the
Yanks·Ladd Field All-Stars midnight baseball classic for the Air
Base Beacon. The pretty girl is Lauree Smith, an American, who was
vacationing in the Land of the Midnight Sun at the time and Cpl.
Manuel Dorsky, Yank left fielder, seems to be deeply impressed as
an ace reporter does his stuff.

ALEUTIAN SOUVENIR
This Jap flag was captured by
Pfc. Leo Powell of the U.S. Infantry
somewhere on the Aleutians.
Pfc. Powell who is a mortar
expert has been on the
Islands since March, 1941. In
civilian life he lived on a ranch
25 miles from Sacremento, Cal.,
and is a close friend of Pfc. Del
Irion of the station sheet metal
shop.
RUSSIAN AS SHE REALLY IS SPOKEN
Advanced classes in Russian attended by both officers and enlisted
men are held twice a week in the Station School Room. Sgt.
M. Fainberg, Russian-born instructor, is explaining a fine point.
