68th Armored Infantry Battalion, Company A - The Blitz - Outpost

“The Blitz” / “Outpost” — Company A’s Own Newspaper
68th Armored Infantry Battalion

A mimeographed camp newspaper published by Company A, 68th A.I.B., during the occupation of Germany following V-E Day. Launched 9 June 1945 as “The Blitz,” it was renamed “Outpost” by its third issue after a companywide naming contest. Edited by Lawrence H. Harris, with Robert C. Sargent as associate editor, the paper features company sports, barracks humor, cartoons, and news of soldiers decorated for earlier combat at Rittershoffen — a lively, informal counterpart to more formal unit histories.

Staff:

  • Capt. W. E. Benoit — Commanding Officer (sponsor of the paper)
  • Larry Harris — Editor
  • Bob Sargent — Reporter
  • Bothel — Columnist (“Strike!”)
  • RT Burch — Columnist (“Dear Ed”)
