The Army Air Forces Tactical Center (AAFTAC) in Orlando, Florida, grew out of the AAF School of Applied Tactics, which was established at Orlando Army Air Base in late 1942 and redesignated the Tactical Center in 1943. Its mission was to develop, test, and teach combat tactics under realistic conditions, training cadres and leaders who would then carry those methods to units deploying overseas.
