Moore Field

Moore Field was a U.S. Army Air Forces training base located near Mission, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley. During World War II it served as an advanced flying training school, primarily teaching fighter pilot tactics and single-engine advanced training to cadets before they moved on to combat assignments. Like many of the Valley’s wartime airfields (it was one of several in the area, alongside places like Harlingen Army Air Field), it played a role in the rapid buildup of pilot training capacity the U.S. needed during the war.
