Fort Belvoir
During WWII, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, served as the U.S. Army’s primary training center for the Corps of Engineers, home to the Engineer Replacement Training Center and the Engineer School. It trained hundreds of thousands of engineer troops in skills like bridge building, demolitions, mine warfare, and construction, and was also involved in developing and testing engineering equipment and camouflage techniques. The post expanded dramatically during the war to meet the Army’s growing demand for combat engineers.
