Camp Harahan, also called Camp Plauche, was a U.S. Army base outside New Orleans that staged and trained troops during World War II, processing roughly 200,000–300,000 soldiers, including railroad and port units. It hosted the Transportation Corps Officer Candidate School and activated several railway battalions in 1943.

The camp is also notable for Private John Hammond’s morale-building concerts (featuring Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Jordan, and Billy Eckstine), which led to informally integrated sports and social life on base. Later in the war, it held German and Italian POWs, including at a satellite sub-camp nearby.
