Big Spring Army Air Field

Big Spring Bombardier School

Located in Big Spring, Texas, in Howard County, Big Spring Army Air Field opened in 1942 as one of the U.S. Army Air Forces’ primary bombardier training schools during World War II. Cadets stationed here trained extensively with the Norden bombsight, learning the precision bombing techniques that would prepare them for combat missions overseas. After the war, the airfield was redeveloped and later became Webb Air Force Base, which remained active until its closure in 1977.
