The Flying Training Command’s New Weapon ……. Cover : Air Cadet ….. Air Cadet John J. Casper, former garage mechanic of Stratford, Conn., is shown toting 100 rounds of 30-caliber ammunition to his plane at Matagorda Island, Tex., where he trains to be a fighter pilot. The course at Matagorda, which lasts 14 days, include: firing at fixed and moving targets, strafing tactics and formation flying. He wears a Mae West, and the rounds in his hands are painted an assigned color so that his hits on the target can be recorded. For story on the Flying Training Command, see page 8.
