Casper, former garage mechanic of Stratford, Conn., is shown toting 100 rounds of 30-caliber ammunition to his plane at Matagorda Island, Tex., where he trains to be a fighter pilot. The course at Matagorda, which lasts 14 days, include: firing at fixed and moving targets, strafing tactics and formation flying.
