Description
Vol. 2 No. 39 ……. With the Superforts there was never an easy mission. When the Jap fighters shied off, there was always flak (see pictures pages 14-15), and when they found their way through the flak bursts, they still had landings to sweat out on crowded airstrips. Some of them, like the B-29 in this week’s cover, didn’t make it. This one cracked up during an emergency landing on the Combat Staging Center strip. Its big prop (in foreground) was sheared off yards down the runway from where the plane came to its last rest. Photo by 20th BomCom Combat Staging Center photographer.
